An in-depth examination of a case that still fascinates all these decades later. It presents as balanced an analysis as is possible, but still makes it clear that Dan Broderick--whether through heartlessness, pride, ignorance, callousness or a combination of all that--dug his own grave and Linda's. It's also clear that Betty need mental health help that she never got, but kinder treatment from her ex and his new wife would probably have kept her from going over the edge. She didn't have to erupt into tirades or take her anger out on her children, true, but Dan didn't need to strip her of every last penny and every shred of her dignity, either. I know, to us $16,000 a month seems like an amazing sum, but that was only a temporary settlement and only a small fraction of what he was pulling in. A sad, riveting and cautionary tale.
