In my view, the great divide in our nation is the biggest threat to our nation and our liberties. This is a great book that provides fresh insight on the factors underlying high conflict. It covers a range of topics that are not typically presented together and shows how they are all connected by problems of high conflict: divorce, community politics, the struggle in Colombia between the government and rebels, gangs and shootings, and controversial topics at a Jewish synagogue. These stories come together to illustrate how high conflict can potentially become good conflict.This is a great book from the perspective of a journalist. In writing about the challenges of being honest and actively listening, at points, the author becomes part of the story.For me, this made the book even better. There's also useful summaries of the main points in the appendix.This is not a book with easy answers. There are many examples of failures or partial successes followed by falling back into high conflict. Even so, by calling out themes that work and reasons for failures, I feel that I have learned a lot.
