It's been ten months since the last release, so I was trying to place Nicarr in the Davos/Blake household. He's a prince but not the kidnapped one. Maybe the youngest? Really, at book ten, it'd be nice to have a glossary.So Nicarr is set for a political marriage to cement an alliance. There's doubts and betrayal, a murder, an old wise woman, a sea of red, threats, all typical stuff for a Tygerian prince. Nothing is really unexpected, another mating hard won, although the laying out of revenge and petty thoughts by King Axel were a bit much. Marry a murderer, well, why not? Thus starts a very convoluted plot.Nicarr and his father Blake know the king's motivations. It's hard to grasp that type of mindset of wanting to keep an 'enemy' close, to dominate and punish him. But Nicarr goes along with it along with my page skipping. Then for some reason Axel changes his mind yet never discusses this change of heart with Nicarr. Not in depth. No grand apology. These are two strangers forging a life together that started out all wrong and they've only been married a few days.By the way, Blake plays a big part in this story. This was priceless:"The little prince (Rakkur) was barely three, and already he was a master manipulator.Blake wasn't sure where he'd gotten all that from."There was talk of an heir and injections and my mind went there, even if the story didn't, and what that outcome would be. Would Nicarr be at risk? What about his present recovery, would that cause problems? Well? As the story ends, at least on this couple, the outcome is uncertain but at least Nicarr is alive.
